Learnt something new from Melissa's blog... The origin of Valentines' Day... The following adapted from Melissa's blog. [Hope she dont mind : )]

"In ancient Rome, February 14th was a holiday to honour Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia. This was always been a joyous festival for singles because girl names will be put into a jar and when a guy pick 'her', she will be his date for that festival. Usually this leads to a marriage. Ok so everyone was living happily ever after until ..... Rome came under the rule of Emperor Claudius II, he was desperately recruiting man for his army but no one seemed to be joining. He believed the reason why roman men did not want to join the army was because they cannot bear to leave their loves or families. As a result, Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome.Then came our Hero, Saint Valentine was a priest at Rome in the days of Claudius II. He finds the rule absurb so he secretly marries couple during the period. He was caught (What else?) and was sentence to death. While he was in prison, many people came to visit him and thank him for believing in love, they threw flowers, chocolates, 'sugar, spice and everything nice' into the prison cell. (so this is how such gifts come about.>.<) One of the people that visited him was the daughter of the prison guard, she was the only person who was allowed to enter the cell. Sometimes they would sit and talk for hours. On the day Valentine was to die (Guess which day? :D). He left her a little note thanking her for her friendship and loyalty.The note signed, "Love from your Valentine." (OIC, a cool card trick)
